Tower's Solomon Returning to Retail7 May, 2007 By: Erik Gruenwedel
It's official: Russ Solomon, the 81-year-old founder of defunct Tower Records & Video, is set to return to the retail trenches in June not far from where he first started selling records more than 46 years ago.
Solomon, who started the venerable franchise adjacent to the historic Tower theater in West Sacramento, Calif., will open R5 Records-Video on Broadway and 15th Ave., according to the Sacramento Bee.
It was previously reported that Solomon was interested launching a retail music and video store with the name Resurrection Records.
Tower, with 89-stores, filed for bankruptcy last year, its assets acquired by a Los Angeles liquidator. The retailer's Web site and brand name were acquired separately by a third party and reportedly continues to operate in a limited fashion.
