Tower Upgrades Vendor Interface

Tower Records will go live with Phase I of the new ACOM EZConnect EDI and EZWebForms B2B eCommerce management in March, it was announced today.

The ACOM system replaces an earlier EDI system that Tower has used for transactions with about 100 of its key suppliers.

"We have experienced slowdowns and reliability problems and we have had to monitor the processes constantly to guard against errors and missing items, and we simply lost confidence in the system," said Phil Minas, director of application development. "EZConnect EDI looks much easier to use and its flexibility will enable us to issue orders faster, move toward greater standardization among suppliers and permit 24/7 hands-off operations. EZWebForms will extend our capabilities to 100 percent of our 'lower-tech' trading partners who lack direct-connect ability but who wish to engage the advantages of electronic commerce."

EZConnect is PC-based data translation, management and partner communications platform. It lets companies connect databases directly and supports access to multiple databases as well as flat file and XML interfaces.

EZWebForms provides a secure Internet-based system for exchanging documents between trading partners.

Phase I implements purchase orders, PO acknowledgment, advance ship notice and invoicing. Phase II, in the planning stages, will implement Web forms for these functions, enabling any of Tower Records' vendors to do business over the Internet.

Founded in Sacramento, in 1960, Tower Records is the operating entity of MTS, Inc., which owns and operates 113 stores worldwide, with 58 franchised operations.
