Toshiba to 'Synchronize' HD DVD Launch with Studios22 Mar, 2006 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Toshiba Corp. intends to roll out initial U.S. shipments of HD DVD players to coincide with studio releases of HD DVD titles — not March 28 as previously announced.
The move suggests HD DVD players would be available for retail no sooner than April 18, the date Warner Home Video has said it would release Million Dollar Baby, The Phantom of the Opera and The Last Samurai on HD DVD.
“In order to maximize the launch of HD DVD, we intend to synchronize thelaunch of our players with HD DVD title releases,” said Jodi Sally, VP of marketing, with Toshiba America Consumer Products Co.
Sally said Toshiba, which is currently in the midst of a nationwide pre-sale HD DVD retail promotional tour, would continue to work with studios and retailers to finalize the sale date of its players.
