Toshiba Creating In-Car HD DVD Player29 May, 2007 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology Co., the five-year partnership between Toshiba Corp. and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. (Panasonic) for the development of small and medium-sized liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors, is reportedly creating an in-car HD DVD player.
Panasonic is primarily a supporter of rival format Blu-ray Disc.
The portable next-generation optical disc player reportedly will come on the market in 2008 at an undisclosed price.Instead of a standard remote control, the device would offer a touch screen control.
Similar to standard HD DVD, playback would require an HD monitor, heretofore a rarity among in-car entertainment systems.
