Toshiba Bows HD DVD Burner2 Oct, 2006 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Widespread assimilation of next-generation optical-disc format HD DVD took another step Oct. 2 when Toshiba Corp. announced it would make available early next year the first slim HD DVD write drive for notebook PCs.
The 12.7 mm-high (SD-L902A) drive can read and write to HD DVD-R discs and high-density HD DVD-ROM discs, including high-definition movie and video images.
The drive also offers the functionality of a super multi-drive, with high-performance, high-speed read-and-write capabilities for standard DVD and CD discs.
Toshiba will unveil the drive at the technology confab Ceatec Japan Oct. 4-8.
Toshiba bowed a slim-type HD DVD reader in the Qosmio G30 laptop computer earlier this year.
