TLA Unveils 'Strange Circus'24 May, 2006 By: Jessica Wolf
TLA Releasing will launch a second film from Japanese cult filmmaker Sion Sono into the North American video market with Strange Circus.
TLA brokered the distribution deal at the current Cannes Film Festival with Japan-based film company Sedic International.
Strange Circus will be released on video in 2007 as part of TLA's “Danger After Dark” label.
Sono's previous film, Suicide Club, is included in TLA's Danger After Dark boxed set, which streets June 27 and also includes the cult-horror films Moon Child and 2LDK.
TLA jumped at the opportunity to work with Sono again, said Richard A. Wolff, TLA partner and director of acquisitions.
“We work very hard to remain loyal to our filmmakers,” Wolff said.
“Strange Circus is a visually disturbing and edgy film that will certainly cause a stir because it plays with audiences perspectives and emotions in the most unconventional way, making it an original addition to our Danger After Dark label.”
Strange Circus follows a teenage girl through a twisted world of incest, suicide and sexual perversion.
