TLA Heats Up 'Dante's Inferno'

21 Jun, 2008 By: Billy Gil

TLA Releasing will bow the bizarre animated feature Dante's Inferno Aug. 26 (prebook July 29) at $19.99.

The film features a unique combination of hand-drawn puppets and miniature sets, giving the film the feel of a graphic novel. Dante's Inferno is an update of the literary classic (the first canticle of The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri) and features the voices of Dermot Mulroney and James Cromwell. The animated version follows a twentysomething in jeans and a hooded sweatshirt as he travels through hell — which looks not unlike a modern cityscape.

The critically acclaimed film, from director Sean Meredith, has won accolades at film festivals such as the 2007 Boston Underground Film Festival and 2007 San Francisco Indie Fest, and was an official selection at the 2007 Slamdance Film Festival. The DVD includes a commentary. Earlier this year, Lionsgate released a film on DVD with a similar feel, Wristcutters: A Love Story, starring Patrick Fugit as a young man traveling through an urban purgatory.
