TiVo to Bow Updated DVR Box25 Apr, 2006 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Digital video recording pioneer TiVo announced beginning May 1 it would offer an updated set-top device capable of recording separate TV shows at the same time.
The TiVo Series 2 DT, which can store up to 80 hours of programming, includes Ethernet and USB ports and retails for $99.99 after rebate and service activation.
The ability to record two TV programs simultaneously has been a standard feature and competitive advantage for DVRs offered by cable operators, including Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications and Charter Communications.
Unlike devices offered by cable operators, the Series 2 DT allows users to transfer recorded programming to a laptop and select portable media players.
TiVo subscribers also can schedule recordings on the Internet and shortly will be able to program their set-top box from a cell phone.
