Three-Disc Set Captures Success Of Tiger Woods On and Off Course

24 Nov, 2004 By: Fred Topel

Buena Vista Home Entertainment's Tiger — The Authorized DVD Collection ($49.99, available now) gives fans three discs worth of Tiger Woods. As the first DVD authorized by the golfer, he wanted to make sure the three-part biography covered everything the fans would want to know.

“Basically, I tried to describe how I grew up [on disc one], and the [second disc] was a recap of my major championship play since I've turned pro,” Woods said. “And the last one was basically the possibilities of what I could do for the game of golf and, hopefully, one day will be able to have that positive impact in the game of golf.”

The set is narrated by Laurence Fishburne, an actor who impressed Woods.

“I tell you what, that is some kind of powerful voice. The powerfulness of his voice, how he comes across and just the directness of it, you couldn't have been any luckier than to have him.”

Woods worked hands on to ensure the documentary's authenticity.

“It's been about a year now, so I had to work on a lot of different things and try and make sure we got everything that we wanted in there.”

Now about to turn 29, Woods felt the time was right to put his life story out on DVD, particularly to complement his work with his own Tiger Woods Foundation. The foundation is dedicated to children's causes.

“We've had so many different positive steps and with my foundation opening up a learning center next year, this [DVD] is a step in the right direction. So now we can [give] these kids an inspirational piece ... hopefully maybe inspire them a little bit with some of my results and show them basically what they can do as well. I had a lot of help to get to where I'm at. It's just a matter of taking advantage of the help around you. Don't be afraid to ask questions.”

Revisiting the archival materials was a highlight for Woods.

“I haven't seen the stuff in over 20 years, so it brought back some great memories of being on the golf course with my dad.”
