Thomas K. Arnold has been promoted to publisher and editorial director of Home Media Retailing. He takes over publisher duties from Don Rosenberg, who served 12 years in that role and also is VP and GM of the entertainment group at Questex Media, which owns HMR.
Arnold, previously associate publisher and editorial director, promises a content-driven approach to running the magazine, focusing as much on the online content as on the print publication.
“Just as it is at the studios, it's all about content,” Arnold said. “Our business is changing, and a successful trade publication is one that truly is a must-read information source for everyone in the industry. I want to continue to deliver top-flight editorial, research and analysis, not just in our weekly magazine, but also on our Web site and in our daily newsletter.”
Arnold continues to report to Rosenberg, who was elevated to VP a year ago but remained publisher.
The announcement was made by Kerry Gumas, CEO of Questex Media Group.“I'd like to congratulate Don for his tremendous contributions to the industry and to the magazine,” Gumas said. “I am convinced Thomas will bring new energy, insight, creativity and leadership to the position.”
Arnold joined what was then Video Store Magazine in November 1991 as senior editor, at a time when the magazine was transitioning from monthly into a newsweekly. He became executive editor in the spring of 1993 and editor-in-chief in November.
During a seven-year tenure as editor-in-chief, Arnold launched show dailies at the annual Video Software Dealers Association convention and East Coast Video Show, developed strategic alliances with The Hollywood Reporter and Nielsen VideoScan, and was a frequent speaker at industry events.
As director of special projects from October 2000 to March 2004, Arnold developed a supplement program, focusing on niche genres, and launched the DVD Conferences division. In March 2004 Arnold became group editor and associate publisher; in July 2005 he was named editorial director.
“It is with great confidence that I pass the publisher's baton on to Thomas,” Rosenberg said. “I look forward to watching him take Home Media Retailing to a new level of excellence.”
