Technicolor Tapped for Flexplay Test

Technicolor Home Entertainment Services (THES) will manufacture EZ-D disposable discs for Buena Vista Home Entertainment's planned August market test.

Flexplay's “flexible play” DVD technology will be used to create expiring discs of test titles and Signs

Technicolor Home Entertainment Services president Quentin Lilly said the dedication of production lines to test the viability of the Flexplay format is consistent with parent company Thomson's strategy to help content owners pioneer new, innovative ways to get their products to market.

"Flexplay's proprietary technology demonstrates our capabilities and versatility to support customers interested in exploring and pursuing emerging media formats," said Lilly. "The technology is an intriguing concept with the potential to exponentially expand the already booming DVD market by offering content owners new distribution, marketing and revenue opportunities while providing consumers with a convenient new way of acquiring and viewing content."

Flexplay discs can be used in a variety of applications, including movies, music, video games, software, advertising and promotions.
