It took owners of illegally modified PlayStation Portables little time to figure out how to unlock previously censored material in the mature-rated Manhunt 2 video game, which went on sale Halloween after previously earning an “adults only” rating from the Entertainment Software Ratings Board.
Because of the PSP unlock, Target Corp. Nov. 7 announced it was pulling the game from all its store shelves, in all its format forms, rather than have the objectionable material wind up in the hands of kids.
“Target strives to provide merchandise that will appeal to a wide variety of guests,” a Target statement read. “We also want guests to be comfortable.”
The game, made by Grand Theft Auto makers Rockstar Games, has been banned completely in the United Kingdom and is widely held as one of the most violent games ever made.
