Survey Says Nearly 80% of Adults Surf Web

A telephone survey conducted by Harris Interactive found 79% of U.S. adults now go online, up from 77% during the same period last year and 74% during the same period in 2005.

The number of online users has reached approximately 178 million, the survey found. The amount of time adults spend online also has risen to an average of 11 hours per week, up from 9 hours last year and 8 hours in 2005. Internet use at home also showed a rise to 72%, up from 70% last year and 66% in 2005.

The poll was taken among 2,062 people age 18 and older, in July and October of 2007.
