'Superman Returns' On DVD21 Sep, 2006 By: John Latchem
Warner Home Video is preparing for Superman's return to home video in a big way Nov. 28, with the debut of Superman Returns and a boxed set of all the “Superman” films.
Superman Returns grossed $198.1 million domestically in theaters this past summer. The film was directed by Bryan Singer, who took over after several planned “Superman” projects stalled in the 1990s.
A $34.99 two-disc special edition DVD of Superman Returns features 10 additional scenes and four behind-the-scenes featurettes, including a look at the process used to update old footage of Marlon Brando for use in the new film. A bare-bones single-disc edition will be available at $28.98. Preorders are due Oct. 31.
Also available day-and-date are Blu-ray Disc ($24.99) and HD DVD ($39.99) versions of the film.
Superman Returns will be part of the new 14-DVD “Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition,” also due Nov. 28 (prebook Oct. 24). In addition, the $99.92 megaset includes the new four-disc special edition of the 1978 Richard Donner-directed Superman, plus special editions of its three sequels, as well as the newly edited and highly anticipated Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut.
Rounding out the set are the documentaries Look Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman and the in-set exclusive You Will Believe: The Cinematic Saga of Superman, plus Singer's video journals from Superman Returns.
The discs are packaged in a lenticular keepsake tin with a booklet, a mail-in offer for “Superman” movie posters and a reproduction of the Superman #7 comic book.
