Super Sounds at Virgin

15 Oct, 2002 By: Hive News

Do you hear what Virgin hears? Virgin hopes to hear in-store customers thrilled by the sound of DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD products.

Select Virgin Megastores in North America now have freestanding DVD-Audio demonstration stations, along with DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD products. Participating stores include ones in San Francisco; Burbank, Calif.; Orlando, Fla.; New York City; Chicago; New Orleans; Miami; Boston; Salt Lake City; and Hollywood, Calif.

"Along with featuring a large selection of DVD-Audio discs and Super Audio CDs, we're also thrilled to offer our Virgin Megastore customers the hardware needed to play them, so it's a one-stop shopping experience," said Dave Alder, SVP of product and marketing, Virgin Entertainment Group, North America. "Since the Super Audio CD players can play both the new SACDs and traditional CDs, and the DVD-Audio player can play the new format discs as well as traditional CDs and DVDs, customers can now expand their current music collections and continue to develop the best listening experience that technology can provide."

Some of the artists already on DVD-Audio and Super Audio include Aerosmith, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, Sheryl Crow, Disturbed, Alanis Morrissette, Linkin Park and Faith Hill.

"Super Audio CDs present a rich lifelike sound to discerning listeners and offer a wider and deeper musical range than a traditional CD," the Virgin press release noted. "Most DVD-Audio discs contain seven times the capacity of CDs and are configured for surround sound. Also, DVD-Audio discs are harder to burn which provide a more secure format than the traditional CD."
