Sundance Channel Options 'Childstar'

6 May, 2005 By: John Latchem

The Sundance Channel has acquired the home video and U.S. pay television rights to the Canadian comedy Childstar, which will be released through Hart Sharp Video on DVD and VHS Aug. 23.

The film, directed by and starring Don McKellar (The Red Violin) will debut on the Sundance Channel in 2006.

Also starring Jennifer Jason Leigh, Dave Foley, Michael Murphy, Eric Stoltz and child actor Mark Rendall, Childstar is a parody of both the world of child actors and the American big-budget film industry.

McKellar plays Rick, a would-be auteur who gets a job chauffeuring a 12-year-old child star during a film shoot in Toronto. Rick soon beds the boy's mother and gets an eye-opening lesson about the strange world of child actors and those who live off them.

Childstar was produced by Rhombus Media and co-written by McKellar and Michael Goldbach.
