Sundance Channel Launches Home Video Line15 Jul, 2002 By: Hive News
Sundance Channel has launched Sundance Channel Home Entertainment, a home video line to be distributed by Showtime Entertainment, Sundance president and CEO Larry Aidem announced today.
The branded line of home entertainment products will provide a platform for independent films and emerging filmmakers in the video and DVD marketplace. Paola Freccero, SVP Film Programming, Sundance Channel, will oversee the line along with Sallie Fraenkel, SVP, program enterprises and distribution, Showtime Networks Inc.
The company anticipates releasing approximately 12 titles per year on VHS/DVD, in most cases prior to their airing on Sundance Channel. Working with distribution partner Showtime Entertainment, the Sundance Channel Home Entertainment video line will be positioned in rental and retail outlets nationwide.
"Sundance Channel has a reputation for discovering independent films that might not find a home in the marketplace and bringing them to a broader audience," said Freccero. "The launch of the Sundance Channel Home Entertainment video line is consistent with the overall mission of Sundance Channel. In today's highly competitive film marketplace, there are many outstanding independent films that have limited, if any, theatrical life. Bringing these films to video/DVD means new opportunities for filmmakers and audiences."
The first two titles anticipated for release in Fall 2002 will the Oct. 22 release of Scotland, PA, starring Maura Tierney, Chris Walken and James Le Gros; and the Nov. 19 release of Amy's O.
"We are thrilled that the depth of the Showtime Entertainment home video and DVD library will be reinforced by the addition of the Sundance Channel Home Entertainment line; Sundance Channel is one of the most prestigious and prolific brand names in the independent film industry," said Fraenkel.
