Study: DTT Market to Reach 350M Units by 201312 Feb, 2008 By: Erik Gruenwedel
The market for digital terrestrial TV receivers, which allow for over-the-air digital transmissions, is expected to reach 350 million units by 2013, from 65 million units in 2007, according to a new research report.
The report by ABI Research in New York found that about 85% of 2007's DTT units support digital television and digital set-top box markets, while 15% comprise other consumer electronics or PC applications.
The DTT infrastructure is comprised of several formats, including ATSC in North America, ISDB in Japan, DVB-T in Europe and Australia, and DMB-T/H in China.
U.S. broadcasters will incorporate the ATSC standard next year when all over-the-air analog transmissions convert to digital. The standard is mandatory in all digital TVs sold after March 1, 2007.
