Several collections of classic films and lesser-known catalog titles are in the works for the pre-holiday season.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Sept. 23 (prebook Aug. 21) releases the first wave of films under the new “Martini Movies” brand at $19.94 each. The titles selected are billed as “hip and iconic films for the cool film lover.”
The initial slate includes The Garment Jungle (1957), starring Kerwin Matthews and Lee J. Cobb; $Dollars, (1971), with Goldie Hawn and Warren Beatty; The Anderson Tapes (1971), starring Sean Connery, Dyan Cannon and Christopher Walken; The New Centurions (1972), with Stacy Keach and George C. Scott; and Affair in Trinidad (1952), starring Glenn Ford and Rita Hayworth.
MGM and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment Oct. 14 (prebook Sept. 17) bow the Alfred Hitchcock Premiere Collection, an eight-DVD set offered at $119.98. The set comes with a 32-page notebook and includes The Lodger (1927), Young and Innocent (1937), Sabotage (1936), Rebecca (1940), Lifeboat (1944), Spellbound (1945), Notorious (1946) and The Paradine Case (1947), all loaded with bonus features. Rebecca, Spellbound and Notorious also will be available individually at $19.98 each.
Warner Home Video Nov. 11 (prebook Oct. 7) offers the Warner Bros. Classic Holiday Collection Vol. 2, a four-DVD set at $29.98. The collection includes Blossoms in the Dust (1941), It Happened on 5th Avenue (1947), Holiday Affair (1949) and All Mine to Give (1957). Blossoms in the Dust is exclusive to the set. The other films will be offered individually at $19.97 each.
Warner also will repromote the Warner Bros. Holiday Collection Vol. 1, a $28.98 set that includes Boys Town, A Christmas Carol, Christmas in Connecticut and The Singing Nun.
