Bill Clark has been promoted to president of Starz Home Entertainment. Clark, previously the division's executive VP and general manager, will continue to oversee worldwide home entertainment for Starz Media, including Anchor Bay Entertainment and Anchor Bay's foreign subsidiaries in Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. Starz Home Entertainment also handles all new DVD releases from Overture Films.
Clark will continue to report to John Hyde, vice chairman of Starz Media. Hyde said over the past year, Clark has been “instrumental in the growth of this division and the transition to our new ownership. Under his direction, the company has increased its share of the rental business tremendously, opened a number of new key accounts, signed significant entertainment properties and consistently exceeded goal expectations.”
Starz Home Entertainment is one of several independent DVD suppliers bubbling under the six major studio home video divisions and minimajor Lionsgate. Along with such others as Genius Products, Magnolia Home Entertainment, Vivendi Visual Entertainment, ThinkFilm and First Look Home Entertainment, Starz is bulking up on content to feed the growing channels of distribution that bring entertainment into the home, from high-definition discs to Internet-based movie delivery sites like Movielink, CinemaNow and Vongo, which is part of the Starz family.
Starz Home Entertainment already has carved leadership positions in such genres as horror, fitness and children's; with Overture Films, the company now has a source of theatrical product, as well. Clark said he's looking forward to releasing on DVD such upcoming theatricals from Overture as Mad Money, with Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes; Ferris Wheel, with Charlize Theron and Dennis Hopper; and 105 Degrees and Rising, which has not yet been cast. All three titles are expected to come to DVD in 2008.
Clark has 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry. Prior to joining Starz, he was COO of Venture Entertainment Enterprises. Before that he held senior management positions at EMI Recorded Music, Walt Disney Studios, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Spelling Entertainment and CBS.
