Starz HD Channels Come to DIRECTV

5 Jun, 2007 By: Billy Gil

Starz Entertainment has announced it will launch new high-definition premium movie channels, including Starz Comedy HD, Starz Edge HD and Starz Kids & Family HD, on DirecTV.

Slated to debut in September, the channels will be East Coast feeds of the standard Starz movie channels and will complement the existing Starz HD channel, which will be available on DirecTV on both the East and West coasts. All five HD channels will be presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound.

“Lack of programming has for years hampered the growth of high-definition television,” said Ed Huguez, Starz Entertainment EVP of affiliate sales and marketing. “DirecTV's leadership role and recently announced breakthrough offering — including the new HD channels from Starz — is a landmark development that will open the HD era.”

Titles offered on the Starz HD channels will include Disney's Cars and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, as well as Sony Pictures' Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. The new channels will be offered at no extra cost to subscribers of the DirecTV Starz Super Pack.

Starz Entertainment offers 16 movie channels, including the flagship Starz and Encore brands, with approximately 15.8 million and 28.2 million subscribers, respectively.
