Stars Wrestle With Outtakes for 2 Fast 2 Furious DVD31 May, 2003 By: Fred Topel
Director John Singleton admitted that he's not thinking about the DVD while he's shooting a movie.
“I just really kind of focus on what's going to be in the movie,” Singleton said. However, now that he's completed 2 Fast 2 Furious for Universal, he has begun to speculate on what he wants to include as bonus features for the DVD, likely to come out by late fall.
“A couple of deleted scenes, we're going to do a commentary -- I'm going to do a commentary and then I want Paul [Walker] and Tyrese to do a commentary. We have a really cool gag reel that is really funny. I mean, all the outtakes and everything, Tyrese going off,” Singleton said.
The film stars Paul Walker as Brian O'Conner, the cop from the first film, The Fast and the Furious. This time, he teams up with an old friend (Tyrese) to bring down a drug dealer amidst the world of Miami street racing. Walker and Tyrese imagined some of their encounters that might make it into the gag reel.
“He's got like 30, 40 pounds on me, but the truth is, I'm into Jujitsu, Brazilian Jujitsu, martial arts and stuff,” Walker said. “I had him in at least three or four arm bars. I had him choked out and tapping out in less than five seconds every time, and that's no lie. We have behind-the-scenes footage, and I just can't wait until it surfaces. I'd love it. He'd hate it. If he finds out they're even considering putting it on, he'll protest. He'll be like, ‘Hell no, that's not going on the DVD.’
Tyrese himself, however, seemed a better sport about it.
“We were just wild,” Tyrese said. “You all are going to really trip out when you see that. Outside of what ended up in the movie, you're all going to see me and Paul really vibing and getting along. It was just moments. Of course, when you're doing a scene and something happens funny in the middle of the scene, you can't keep it for the movie. When you see the bloopers, you all are just going to trip out. Me and Paul were beating on each other. We'd just sock each other in the arm, smack each other in the head. It was just ugly.”
Who won the fight?
“I don't want to answer that,” Tyrese said.
2 Fast 2 Furious opens in theaters June 6.
