Star Says TV's 'Boone' Is Boon on DVD16 Jun, 2006 By: Stephanie Prange
(L-R): "Daniel Boone" co-star Ed Ames; Paul Culberg, COO of Goldhil; and star Fess Parker in Santa Barbara, Calif., celebrate the release of the show on DVD by Goldhil Entertainment.
“Daniel Boone was a man. He was a BIG man,” crooned legendary star Fess Parker with former sidekick Ed Ames.
It was an impromptu performance of the title song from “Daniel Boone,” given last week at Fess Parker's Doubletree Resort in Santa Barbara, Calif. Parker — who, like the hero he portrayed in the 1960s series, towered over the crowd — and Ames celebrated the TV show's first-ever release on DVD.
Goldhil Entertainment and Liberation Entertainment will bow seasons one and two of the series Sept. 26 at $49.98 each. Extras include a photo gallery, interviews with Parker, a visitor's guide to his winery and resort, and audio commentary from Parker.
Parker, who played the famous frontiersman nearly a decade after vaulting to fame in the 1950s as another early American hero, Davy Crockett, credited the continued love and demand for the series to its “timeless setting” and first-rate crew and cast. Among them: Darby Hinton and Veronica Cartwright, both of whom showed up at the event.
Parker said DVD is “a nice process” to preserve “Daniel Boone” for future generations.
“So many of these series are gone from memory,” Ames added. “It's going to be a real kick to see it on DVD.”
Karen Dusik, who runs fan Web site www.danielboonetv.com, flew in from Indiana for the event.
“We grew up with this show,” she said, adding that there are fans all over the world.
