Despite sluggish sales of video game console PlayStation 3, Sony Corp. reported first-quarter (ended June 30) income of more than $552 million (66.4 billion yen) compared to $268 million (32.5 billion yen) during the same period last year.

Worldwide PS3 unit sales topped 710,000 units compared to sales of 1.6 million and 1.9 million PS3 units, respectively, in the third and fourth quarters of fiscal 2006.
