Sony Pictures Television and AT&T Inc. will launch the first-ever mobile phone movie network in May, the companies announced March 31.
PIX will feature dozens of Sony catalog films, including bonus materials, with new films rotating in each month, Sony Pictures Television announced.
“PIX will give viewers their own personal movie theater wherever they take their mobile phones,” said Eric Berger, VP of mobile entertainment for Sony Pictures Television. “With an incredible library of quality Hollywood hits, it's a mobile destination channel for convenient, enjoyable entertainment, and the latest offering in SPT's distinctive portfolio of mobile games and video.”
Subscribers to AT&T's Mobile TV service will see Ghostbusters, Kung Fu Hustle, Karate Kid, Bugsy, Resident Evil, Memento, Philadelphia, A League of Their Own and other films in the first month.
“We are thrilled to have PIX as a channel on AT&T Mobile TV, adding to the impressive television programming lineup that awaits our mobile customers,” said Mark Collins, VP of consumer data for AT&T's wireless unit. “We are constantly looking for unique and compelling content offerings for AT&T customers, so being able to give them mobile access to the massive movie library of Sony Pictures Television via PIX is truly going to enhance their overall mobile experience.”
