Sony Packages Screenblast for Retail

Sony Pictures Digital (SPD) will bring its Screenblast movie and music editing system offline and into packages for the nationwide retail launch of the digital media software Screenblast Movie Studio and Screenblast Music Studio (suggested retail price $69 each).

The software, launching on retail shelves in time for this year's digital gift-giving season, debuts nationwide this week at retailers including Best Buy, CompUSA, Micro Center, Sony Style and Sony Gallery, as well as online at Amazon.com.

Today's announcement complements Screenblast's online service, which launched in September 2001, to less than stellar success.

"We're meeting a growing demand for fun, easy-to-use, video-editing and musicmaking software and the first to bring 'entertainment' to a category traditionally defined by utility. As a true end-to-end solution, Screenblast provides consumers with everything they need to edit, enhance and share their digital life -- from award-winning software to an online creativity service," said Andrew Schneider, SVP and GM, Screenblast.

"Screenblast leverages our legacy as an entertainment company, as well as Sony's leadership as a global electronics brand, to give consumers new context and relevancy for their digital devices,” SPD EVP Patrick Kennedy said, “Capturing your life becomes more than just documentation -- but an opportunity to entertain your friends and family."

Users registering for the Screenblast online service receive a personal URL and private online storage. Users also can download additional video and music clips, custom borders and title cards, as well as find ideas and inspiration.
