Spider-Man is casting his web in a new direction as he scales the World Wide Web. In conjunction with the recent release of the $114 million weekend box office champion Spider-Man, Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment and Sony Electronics e-Solutions Co. are launching the official Spider-Man Online Store on Sonystyle.com.
"The excitement surrounding the Spider-Man property presents a unique opportunity to connect with our customers," said Jeremy Barnett, VP Integrated Marketing, Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment. "The range of consumer product offerings combined with the Spider-Man integration is the key to this successful retail partnership."
Consumers can choose from official movie merchandise including action figures, posters, toys and exclusive cast and crew apparel.
Spider-Man's familiar red and black image covers the site through May 9.
“This project has given Sony the opportunity to leverage the power of its content, services and hardware on one Web site, thereby increasing the value of our services to the end user," said Brian Siegel, Director Business Development, Sony Electronics e-Solutions Co.
The initiative is an example of how Sony online divisions have the ability to join forces to maximize offerings and extend consumer marketing across properties, Siegel said
An example of some of the online offerings include super-poseable action figures featuring Spider-Man and Green Goblin, a replica of the Spider-Man movie poster, the movie soundtrack and the Spider-Man Web Blaster toy. Also offered exclusively on SonyStyle.com are hooded sweatshirts, jackets and caps provided to Spider-Man cast and crew members. Limited edition T-shirts designed by artist Bernie Wrightson are available on the site as well.
