Sony Goes Global With 'Mr. Men'

4 Jun, 2008 By: Chris Tribbey

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is partnering with family entertainment company Chorion to bring the sketch comedy “The Mr. Men Show” to DVD.

The Cartoon Network hit is based on a children's book series that has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide. The animation takes the books' familiar characters — Mr. Happy, Little Miss Chatterbox, Mr. Tickle — and gives them a contemporary makeover.

“This cleverly written animated franchise should perform very well around the world,” said SPHE EVP Bob Rubin.

Sony is aiming to release all 52 episodes on DVD later this year.

“SPHE's global platform will give the property a fantastic profile in all our key territories,” said Eric Karp, EVP of global licensing and merchandising for Chorion. “We look forward to working with this industry leader in home entertainment to build on the success that the show is already evidencing.”

The show also airs in the United Kingdom and France, and the brand enjoys licensing agreements between Chorion and Virgin Atlantic, American Greetings, Qantas, Fisher Price, Nestle, Penguin Publishing, Unilever, Jakks Pacific and Sony Creative Products.
