Sony DADC 50GB Blu-ray Disc Production Tops 10M Units2 Oct, 2007 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Sony DADC, the Terre Haute, Ind.-based disc replication unit of Sony Corp., Oct. 2 said it had produced its 10 millionth extended capacity dual layer 50GB Blu-ray Disc.
The disc featured Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray, from Columbia Pictures.
Sony DADC, which also operates production plants in Salzburg, Austria and Shizuoka, Japan, has produced more than 50 million Blu-ray Discs, including primarily single layer 25GB discs, since May 2006.
“BD25 yield rates and machine output performance have exceeded our expectations,” said Mike Mitchell, EVP Sony DADC. “Single layer yields are consistently around 85% and daily machine output levels are approaching parity with our DVD assets.”
The facilities can produce combined 21 million BD discs per month, according to Sony.
