Sony Bows 'Walk' VR Experience App

5 Jan, 2016 By: Stephanie Prange

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has launched a free virtual reality mobile app that ties into The Walk, which bowed on 3D Blu-ray and DVD Jan. 5 and is also available on Digital HD.

The Walk VR Experience App allows users to experience Philippe Petit's legendary 1974 high-wire walk between the twin towers of New York's World Trade Center. Joseph Gordon Levitt starred as the high-wire daredevil in the film, which was directed by Oscar winner Robert Zemeckis.

The app can be used on a compatible iPhone or Android smartphone with a compatible virtual-reality viewing device, such as Merge VR Goggles or Google Cardboard. Users without VR goggles or Google Cardboard can enter 360 video mode to get a birds eye view of 1974 New York using only their mobile devices.

The Walk discs include a limited-time $15 discount coupon for online purchases of Merge VR Goggles (regularly $99 at MergeVR.com, which is running a corresponding campaign in support of The Walk app). The discount is valid through March 1.
