Sony Pictures Digital Authoring Center has completed authoring on the first Blu-ray Disc containing a full-length, high definition feature film, it was announced today.

Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle was compressed and authored in MPEG 2 high definition (1920 x 1080) and is now being shipped to Blu-ray hardware companies for player testing, said Benjamin S. Feingold, president of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE).

“We are confident this achievement will help everyone understand that Blu-ray is real and poised to enter the marketplace,” Feingold said.

“This is an important step for our industry in order to begin mass production of high-definition movies in the Blu-ray format in the near future,” added, Don Eklund, SVP, advanced technologies, SPHE.
