Qualcomm Inc., pioneer of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced that it has signed agreements with Sony Online Entertainment and third-party game developer THQ Inc. to develop wireless entertainment applications for Qualcomm's Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (BREW) platform.
"The addition of well-respected and talent-rich companies continues to create excitement surrounding BREW products and services in the United States and around the world," said Gina Lombardi, SVP of marketing and product management, Qualcomm Internet Services. "It is evident from the success of Korea Telecom FreeTel's BREW service that compelling content, quality devices and visionary leadership, combined with the complete BREW solution, equals happy subscribers and a thriving business for all parties involved."
Other companies that have recently signed agreements to develop wireless content for the BREW platform include Cinemalectric, Inc., Com2uS Corp., Gameloft Inc. and Mobliss Inc.
Carriers' BREW-based services enable consumers to customize their handsets by downloading applications over the air from a carrier's application download server.
