Sony Adds HD to LocationFree TV5 Sep, 2007 By: John Latchem
Sony Corp.'s LocationFree TV, which can stream TV and video images around the house via wireless signal, is getting a high-definition upgrade, according to PC World.
LocationFree TV Home HD will be released in Japan Dec. 1 at about 50,000 yen ($431). International launch plans are pending.
The LocationFree system uses a base station connected to video signal sources, such as a high-def movie player or satellite tuner, and re-directs those signals to tuner boxes hooked to other TVs in the home. The new LocationFree box has the compression technology to handle high-def digital broadcasts.
The new boxes do not have the capability to stream video across the Internet or a home network to terminals or PC clients.
