Sonic Offers DVD Burning Software8 Aug, 2006 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Sonic Solutions, which in July licensed its burn-to-DVD software to online movie download service Movielink, Aug. 8 announced it would offer similar software to consumers and third-party content distributors through its Roxio brand.
Roxio Venue lets consumers select, manage, view and securely burn entertainment purchased online onto recordable DVDs that play on standard DVD players as well as PCs. The software will be available later this year through Sonic's direct, retail and OEM channels.
“This is a nice way for consumers to interface with online video services and burn copy-protected purchased content,” said a Sonic spokesperson.
The software would be distributed in three ways, including as a private-label interface, stand-alone software available at CompUSA or by download.
The software is aimed at more than 40 million U.S. households that have broadband connections.
