Mall-based movie retailer Suncoast reports that on Tuesday, Oct. 9, the chain's DVD sales exceeded those of any other day in 2001.

Disney's Platinum Edition of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs proved most popular among Suncoast'scustomers, making the title the best-selling family DVD so far this year at Suncoast.

In addition, The Godfather DVD Collection ranked second for the day and is expected to be the best-selling DVD gift set to date for the chain.

"The industry expected Tuesday to be a record-setting day for videoretailers, and it was certainly the case at Suncoast," said Craig Thomas, director of video marketing for Suncoast.

"Suncoast thrived because our movie-enthusiast customers have been anticipating these collectors' editions formonths. This is the first time that either title ever has been available on DVD and both titles offer extras that movie fans love," Thomas said.

A division of the Minneapolis-based Musicland Group, Suncoast has nearly 400 locations nationwide.
