Smaller HDTVs Gain Market Share

17 Apr, 2008 By: Chris Tribbey

Consumers bought smaller flat-panel HDTVs in February, with 30- to 34-inch LCDs gaining 8% unit market share over January, and all sizes 40 inches and larger losing ground, according to a Pacific Media Associated report.

“The gains for the smaller sets came at the expense of mid-size models,” said Pacific Media VP Rosemary Abowd. “The 45-inch to 49-inch LCD segment dropped four unit share points from 18% to 14%, and the popular 40-inch to 44-inch 1080p segment, including LCD and plasma, lost two unit share points from 20% to 18%.”

Sony and Samsung owned the largest unit market shares with roughly 23% each.
