The Simpsons Movie

Nearly 20 years in the making, The Simpsons Movie makes its way to home video Dec. 18 (prebook Nov. 21) from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

A $29.98 DVD and $39.98 Blu-ray Disc version will include two commentaries, deleted scenes, an alternate ending, and “Simpsons” gags from “The Tonight Show” and “American Idol.”

The film version of television's longest-running comedy series grossed $181.7 million at the domestic box office and more than $500 million globally.

The film finds Homer enamored with a pet pig, which, through a bizarre turn of events, subjects the town of Springfield to an environmental disaster. When the government encloses the city in a giant dome, Homer and his family flee to Alaska to start a new life.

The “Simpsons” phenomenon began in 1987 with a series of short sketches on “The Tracy Ullman Show,” before spinning off into its own series in 1989. “The Simpsons” recently began its 19th season on TV, and the first 10 seasons are available on DVD.
