DreamWorks Animation SKG has followed through with an announcement that many knew was coming, but still crossed their fingers for: The HD DVD of the international blockbuster Shrek the Third will street day and date with the DVD on Nov. 13.

Distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment, the HD DVD will feature several exclusive features not included on the DVD: a feature-length, picture-in-picture storyboard reel that branches to lost scenes; a customized-menu option allowing viewers to choose from themes surrounding their favorite character; and three Web-enabled downloadable features, including “Shrek's Trivia Track,” the upcoming “World of Shrek” movie guide and “Donkey's Digital Coloring Book,” where viewers can digitally paint their favorite scenes. Only the DVD features “Worcestershire Academy Yearbook,” an interactive flipbook with 30 soundbites.

Both the HD DVD and DVD will include “Shrek's Guide to Parenthood,” with the characters Gingy, Donkey, Puss in Boots, Pinocchio and Gingy offering tips on parenting to Shrek and Fiona; deleted scenes; a behind-the-scenes featurette with the cast; the featurette “Tech of Shrek”; a “Donkey Dance” video; a gag reel; and several DreamWorks Kids creative bonus features, including “Shrek Shmash-Ups,” where scenes from all three “Shrek” films can be mixed to music.

DVD-ROM games include “Shrek Shmash-Ups” and several “Royal Tournament Games.”

Pulling in a giant $785 million in theaters worldwide, Paramount and DreamWorks are making sure the second life on video is worthy, with the “largest, most comprehensive marketing program ever launched” by the two companies, according to a press release.

For three months, starting in October and capitalizing on Halloween, the two studios have hooked up with 15 promotional partners, including Energizer, Campbell's, Kellogg's and McDonalds. Also, every Shrek the Third DVD will include a game piece, where five grand prize winners will received an “HP Digital Home Makeover” worth $3,500. Other prices include notebook PCs, Xbox 360 game consoles, HD DVD players, LG Mint Chocolate phones, and photo gifts from Snapfish.

Lastly, viewers of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will be in for a green treat: Shrek the ogre will make his debut in front of 50 million on TV and 3.5 million watching live as he floats down New York streets.
