Shout Hits Home Run With MLB25 Apr, 2005 By: Erik Gruenwedel
The Los Angeles Dodgers' surprising best record in the young 2005 Major League Baseball season might have some fans scratching their heads, but few could argue the merits of Dodger Blue: The Championship Years, available on DVD ($19.98) May 17 from Shout! Factory.
The documentary — which covers 50 years of Dodger lore from the then-Brooklyn Dodgers' 1955 World Series triumph over cross-town New York Yankees to player interviews, behind-the-scenes material and game footage culled from MLB archives — represents the first of four scheduled DVD releases in an exclusive three-year deal between Shout! and Major League Baseball Productions.
The second DVD, hosted by U.S. Olympic Gold Medal softball pitcher Jennie Finch, will street around the All-Star Game and focus on major league players in an instructional format offering tips on batting, pitching and fielding, in addition to behind-the-scenes interviews and related commentary.
Another title, The Official 2005 World Series DVD, will street sometime in the fall.
“[MLB] is an extremely well-known brand and major property not controlled by a studio,” said Garson Foos, co-founder of Shout! Factory. “Many of us here are big baseball fans. It is a part of pop culture, and we are all about pop culture.”
Shout! also distributes Warren Miller ski films and World Poker Tour, among other sports fare.
