Sharing Problems for Zune25 Jan, 2007 By: John Latchem
Microsoft has touted the ability of its Zune mp3 player to wirelessly share songs between Zune devices for three plays or three days as an advantage over Apple's rival iPod. Several tech-savvy Web sites, such as ZuneThoughts.com, noticed about half of songs from Universal Music Group (EMG) and Sony Music are restricted from sharing. Microsoft had previously reached an agreement to provide a portion of Zune sales to UMG in exchange for access to its music. Microsoft said UMG is not restricting its songs and said the problem is due to wireless sharing being “a new experience and its implementation is in a version 1.0 stage.” Microsoft has always noted on its fact sheets for Zune that some audio files wouldn't transfer.
