10 Aug, 2001 By: Staff Reporter

David Dobkin (Clay Pigeons) has signed to helm Shanghai Knights for Spyglass Entertainment and the Walt Disney Co. The sequel to last year's comedy-adventure Shanghai Noon reteams stars Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson and is expected to start lensing in February.

Knights takes the original's lead characters to London at the turn of the 20th Century, where they uncover a conspiracy to overthrow the British and Chinese empires. The script was written by Shanghai Noon scribes Miles Millar and Al Gough.

Spyglass co-chairmen Roger Birnbaum and Gary Barber will produce along with Spyglass production president Jonathan Glickman. Disney senior v.p. production Jason Reed and creative executive Louanne Brickhouse are overseeing for the studio.

Noon, set in the American Old West, was directed by Tom Dey. It grossed about $57 million domestically and $100 million worldwide.

Dobkin was a noted commercial and video director before breaking into film with Clay Pigeons in 1998.
