SeaChange Improves DRM

8 Oct, 2002 By: Hive News

SeaChange International has partnered with SecureMedia to integrate its Encryptonite System Digital Rights Management (DRM) software with SeaChange's Video-On- Demand (VOD) System.

DRM systems perform the essential encryption of digital content to protect the storage and distribution of media assets on broadband networks, while also managing user rights to content. It lets service providers license programming and to ensure the revenue generated by those media assets.

SecureMedia's Encryptonite System is an open platform DRM solution that can secure virtually any media type and format. The system is entirely software based and operates on a variety of hardware and operating system platforms. Encryptonite does not detract from video stream bandwidth, and the technology is optimized for low-cost implementation in set-top boxes and other consumer devices.

"SeaChange is focused on providing a complete VOD platform that makes VOD a viable business," said Yvette Kanouff, SVP of corporate strategy, SeaChange International. "Secure Media's Encryptonite helps our customers address asset security concerns. Overall, DRM systems provide assurances that can accelerate the deployment of IP-based VOD by making the medium more appealing to content producers and by allowing operators to expand their subscriber base with confidence."

"We are thrilled to be working with the leader in video-on-demand deployments," stated Fred Ellis, CEO of SecureMedia. "Together, SeaChange and SecureMedia are bringing a ready-made VOD solution to telcos and cable operators around the world who are looking to leverage their broadband networks and unlock the enormous business potential in on-demand television services."
