27 Jan, 2014 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Screen Media Ventures has reached an agreement with independent film producer and distributor Troma Entertainment for licensing rights to 40 films. Screen Media Ventures plans to add the titles to its ad-supported streaming platforms, including Popcornflix, horror channel FrightPIX and Popcornflix Comedy.

Notable Troma films include campy classics such as the Toxic Avenger and Class of Nuke ‘Em High, Blood Sucking Freaks and Tromeo and Juliet, among others.

Screen Media Ventures’ streaming platforms can be accessed via the Web, Roku, Xbox, iOS or Android apps.

“Troma Entertainment films have reached cult classic status worldwide,” David Fannon, EVP at Screen Media Ventures, said in a statement. “Consumers are looking for alternatives to content providers who are nickel-and-diming them at every turn, and they’re seeking affordable entertainment options. Our agreement with Troma underscores Popcornflix’s commitment to providing consumers with an array of entertainment options for free!”
