SBC Pumps Services With ‘Free' MGM DVDs

9 Jul, 2004 By: Erik Gruenwedel

SBC Communications has launched a nationwide promotional campaign offering new customers up to 12 free MGM DVD titles when supplementing their local phone service with additional services.

The campaign, which is being promoted through print, TV and Internet ads, stipulates that customers have the option of selecting up to three DVD movies from a catalog of 30 titles for each supplemental service added to their basic monthly plan.

Add-on services include unlimited long distance, DSL Internet service, DISH Network satellite and Cingular cellular phone service.

Titles include Agent Cody Banks, Bull Durham, Honeymoon in Vegas and Throw Momma from the Train. The offer is good for a total of 12 movies.

A link on the SBC Web site transfers users to the MGM site, where additional information on the titles, including future theatrical and home video releases, is available.

Acquiring all four supplementary telecommunication services will set a consumer back $121.95 per month on top of the basic $21.95 monthly local phone service.

In other words, if consumers wants 12 free DVD titles, they'll pay a hefty price each month.

An MGM spokesperson who was aware of the promotion declined to comment; an SBC representative was not immediately available.
