Rovi Corp. has partnered with Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJI) to deliver real-time, live DivX streaming in 720p resolution using the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) video compression standard.

The first live stream will take place March 23 with the airing of the classical music concert “Tokyo-HARUSAI Marathon Concert Vol. 4: The Life of Richard Strauss — Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Composer's Birth.”

DivX Live offers support for H.264 and HEVC, and is designed for resolutions up to 4K, offering video delivery to mobile phones, tablets, PCs, set-top boxes and Internet-connected TVs.

“The ability to support higher-quality video while being bandwidth efficient is vital to delivering next-generation video content to consumers’ favorite devices,” said Kenichiro Hayashi, GM of IIJI’s product promotion department. “By leveraging DivX Live, we’re offering differentiated services that allow our consumers to experience the most popular content in real-time.”

Kanaan Jemili, SVP of product management at Rovi, added: “Today’s announcement further demonstrates the true power of DivX HEVC technologies to enable live and on-demand streaming of next-generation video experiences across multiple screens.”
