Rogers To Offer MGM Titles Via VOD

Rogers Cable has signed an agreement with MGM Home Entertainment to add premium MGM movies to its video-on-demand (VOD) offering, making it the first Canadian cable company to sign a VOD content agreement with a major Hollywood studio.

Rogers Digital customers can access a library of 400 titles including movies, concerts, documentaries and television series. Programming is offered in a 24-hour viewing window and viewers can stop, rewind, fast forward and pause the program by using their set-top box remote control. The deal includes titles like Die Another Day and Barbershop are added to the VOD service.

"MGM is very pleased to embark on this venture with Rogers," said David Bishop, president and COO, MGM Home Entertainment. "Their market leadership in Canada will allow us to pursue our objectives for maximizing revenue from new releases, while also deriving incremental value from our unparalleled modern film library."

Rogers VOD is available to customers in Central Toronto with additional Toronto neighborhoods being phased in throughout 2003.

MGM is the newest content provider to join the Rogers VOD service. Other content providers on the service include Alliance Atlantis Motion Picture Distribution, which represents Miramax, New Line and Artisan Films as well as Lion's Gate, CBC, Corus Entertainment and TVA.
