Report: Online Holiday Shopping Down 1%

Five fewer shopping days combined with a recession resulted in consumers spending $24.02 billion on online holiday shopping from Nov. 1 to Dec. 19, compared to $24.15 billion during the same period last year, according to a new report.

RIAA Halts Strategy of Suing Individual Music Downloaders

The Recording Industry Association of America’s (RIAA) decision Dec. 19 to abandon its years-long practice of suing individuals who illegally download and share music, was something the RIAA should have done long ago, according to Fred von Lohmann with the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

SAG Delays Mailing Strike Authorization Ballots

Citing a large number of actors (including high-profile) in opposition to a proposed strike, the Screen Actors Guild Dec. 22 said it would postpone until Jan. 12 mailing out ballots to its 120,000 members seeking authorization for a strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), the union representing studios and television networks.
