Report: Lionsgate, Sony to Supply Comcast Horror Channel

21 Sep, 2006 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Lionsgate may soon have a new home for its successful “Saw” franchise: cable. The Santa Monica, Calif.-based mini-major, Sony Pictures Television and Comcast Corp. Oct. 31 plan to launch Fearnet, an Internet and cable video-on-demand based channel featuring only catalog horror movies, reported The Los Angeles Times.

Analyst David Miller with Sanders Morris Harris characterized the report as speculation, and said details, including pricing, titles and availability, on the channel and financial agreements between the companies remained unclear.

He said Lionsgate has expressed interest in a horror channel for some time and any formal announcement would likely occur before Halloween.
