Report: LCD Growing, Plasma Losing14 Feb, 2008 By: Chris Tribbey
Flat-panel HDTV sales grew 27% in December over the previous month, according to a new report from research firm Pacific Media Associates. The report showed LCD increasingly taking away plasma's market share.
“One important development in December was that plasma models continued to lose ground to LCD,” said Pacific Media VP Rosemary Abowd. “LCD already dominates the market below 45 inches, but in December, LCD took 50% of the larger 50-54 inch size segment.”
According to Abowd, Plasma's unit share dropped to 17% for the month. Samsung laid claim to seven of the top 10 best-selling models in December, giving it a No. 1 unit share of nearly 30%, and a revenue share of more than 32%.
The average street price for all HDTVs sold during December dropped by 1% over the previous month.
