Report: China, Russia Top Movie Pirates

8 Apr, 2006 By: Erik Gruenwedel

As expected, China and Russia were cited as the most flagrant abusers of U.S. copyrighted material, including movies, music and software, according to a bipartisan congressional group.

The Congressional International Anti-Piracy Caucus April 5 stated the two countries contributed toward $4 billion in U.S. business losses.

“Piracy in these countries is largely the result of a lack of political will to confront the problem,” the group said in a statement reported by Reuters.

The Business Software Alliance last year said cutting the global piracy rate of 35% by 10 percentage points over a four-year period could generate 2.4 million new jobs, $400 billion in economic growth and $67 billion in tax revenues worldwide.
